ARTISTIC PRODUCTION AWARD
FUNDACIÓN BANCO SANTANDER
IN COLLABORATION WITH OPEN STUDIO

Thanks to this award, Fundación Banco Santander and Open Studio have contributed for the past nine years to give visibility to young emerging artists excluded from commercial circuits, providing them with a three-month residency in a studio in Madrid, as well as an economic grant for the production of their work.

THE BILBAIAN ARTIST IRATI INORIZA, WINNER OF THE IX AWARD FOR ARTISTIC PRODUCTION FUNDACIÓN BANCO SANTANDER IN COLLABORATION WITH OPEN STUDIO

In its ninth edition, the jury of the Fundación Banco Santander Artistic Production Award, and  in collaboration with Open Studio, has unanimously decided to award the prize to the artist Irati Inoriza (Bilbao, 1992).

Her work, with strong procedural characteristics, stands out for the use of nature-related materials and her personal experiences, such as country drifts and urban walks. Videos, drawings and sculptures are the predominant formats of her production, where references to philosophy, literature, music, anthropology and science can be found.

Currently, her artistic research responds to the desire to link body and water, mythology with the ancestral, and the performative and the sensitive, altogether with contemporary experience.

In her own words, "Coexistence with the context transforms my way of working and the processes that I develop. I create on the basis of  being attentive and latent to what surrounds me. The collaborations that take place with other artists and agents are something substantial within my work processes. Living during the spring of 2022 in Madrid, will give me space and time to be able to continue with the production  that I propose, to connect to the artistic and cultural community of Madrid, in addition to providing me with another perspective of how my research is received and how it converges with many others."

THE FINALISTS

The jury also wants to highlight the quality of the proposals presented by other finalists:

  • Diana Millán Pascual (Murcia, 1997), who focused on problems experienced by her generation (I-Gen), and digital natives, condemned to constant contradictions and an uncertain future.

  • Jon Ander Terroba (Bilbao, 1996), who based his work on the capture of gestures and the image it generates, turning serialization into his work tool.

  • María Esteve Trull (Valencia, 1998), whose work is the result of research around the concept of landscape, seeking stimuli both in the natural and in urban environment, producing graphite drawings or stitched pictures as a result.

  • Eduardo Hodgson Pérez (Tenerife, 2001), whose research on connections between body and image, materialized in a variety of formats that range from painting, installation, performance, and photography, stands out for its coherence and roundness of approach, despite the artist's youth.

THE JURY

The jury was made up of María Beguiristain and Blanca Gómez Mosquete (Department of Art and Exhibitions of Fundación Banco Santander), Tania Pardo (deputy director of the Dos de Mayo Art Center Museum, and Plastic Arts Advisor of the Community of Madrid), Pilar Soler (independent curator), Amaya Hernández and Christian Lagata (artists representing the "35,000 Jóvenes" studio), Mònica Planes (winner of the VIII Fundación Banco Santander Award for Artistic Production) and María Eugenia Álvarez (director of Open Studio).
